Book Review -Prepping for a Suburban or Rural Community: Building a Civil Defense Plan for a Long-Term Catastrophe

Met a guy on Twitter. I had posted a tweet somewhere along the lines of “Civil Defense begins with YOU”. His response was to invite me to read his new book.

Yeah. Sure.

I don’t respond to many invitations, and for good reason. But something about his premise interested me – because it included as part of its foundation an EMP strike. So, I trotted over to Amazon and read what I could of the “Look Inside” feature. The material

Remember the Penetrator Antenna from the70s?

My dad ran this as one of his antennas in the 70s. A Hy Gain Super Penetrator. It claims great range. Well, we chatted with people across the country under skip conditions – really! We did! Amazing antenna.

Cost him $110 then at Radio Shack. Here it is for $149. NOS. I almost did it….. But I’ll let someone else have at it. It would make for a great retro radio station that actually works.

Interesting Idea for a Bomb Shelter

I had to laugh at the creativity! Gotta love this. I found it while searching for some items on E-bay. Some people describe their bunkers for sale as “submarines.” This is a different take.

E-Bay underground bunker…

“Here’s the deal…. I took the motor and outdrive off this cruiser and the rest is for sale. The electric and plumbing is in place and should be ready to hook up to 12 volt. You could put a generator where the motor

Explosives in Breast Implants?

In this ARTICLE from the Mirror UK, we read about a current threat regarding terrorist bombing efforts at Heathrow, undertaken by placing a bomb within a breast implant (or two).

I wonder what has taken so long?

A while back, I was considering how the bad guys might try to get around our security efforts – specifically, airport security. I was looking at the possibility of taking a flight – and I was feeling a tad vulnerable. It struck me

A reply to a series of videos from a YouTube user by the name of StankMouthCharlie.

Did Yesterday's Amber Alert Spook You?

Many Californians were shocked out of their seats and beds yesterday and early this morning when the first ever Amber Alert via iPhone went out. It was preceded by a very ominous alert, much like a danger signal or warning. If you were a participant in this event, and would rather not participate in another, you can turn off the alert in your iPhone.

Touch “Settings” and then “Notifications”. Scroll to the bottom of that screeen and you will see

Government Assisted Identity Theft

As if hacked government databases haven’t already place our personal information at risk, here is news of another problem that promises to be the biggest yet.

The information database necessary for the Health Care exchanges to operate has NOT passed security testing. It will be the world’s largest and most complete storehouse of personal information ever. It will be the target of hackers large and small, government and geek, and the attacks will be round the clock.

Our people can’t

Quad Copter Project

A colleague at work builds multi-rotor copters. His latest creations utilize 4 rotors, carry cameras, and dive into the ocean. Well, that last bit about the ocean was an impromptu trick his tri-copter attempted. The up-side-down video from under water, of him approaching and retrieving the thing from a tidal pool, was hilarious.

I used to build R/C ships. Taking a plan drawing and converting it into production schematics was something I liked to do. With the interesting things builders

An Article Explaining Ionizing and Non-Ionizing Radiation

From the EPA, an article with a good graphic that explains what kinds of radiation, and their related frequencies, will create ionization, and which won’t. I found it helpful.

12 A/C for Your Van?

A YouTube video from The Low Buck Prepper.

Interesting video. He get 78 degree air from the outlet in 90 degree weather. His cooling medium is 4 small frozen plastic water bottles. Warm air forced in, cool air out.

Simple idea, that begs for tinkering. I haven’t built one, but I might. If I do, it is likely I’ll play expert and try a few modifications.

First, I’d go with a shorter up stack. The longer a tube, the
