Budget Updates

Today, I lined up the budget for the year, which includes estimated income for regular pay days, recurring monthly expenses and some estimates for changes throughout the year. If you don’t use a budget planner of some sort, I strongly urge you to do so. No plan can possibly work to its best without knowing what available resources exist, and most will flatly fail.

The budget files available for free download on our Budgets page will need tweaking for your

Water Storage - Part I

Water Storage. More than just a bottle or two, it’s a HUGE subject.

15 and 55 gallon barrels Water BOBs 2 liter bottles Canteens Portable filters Purification tablets Iodine purification Mechanical filters Ceramic filters Chemical filters Distillers

Water During the Bug-Out What do you do? Do you store all you need ahead of time? Do you keep filters on hand and hope to have or find a supply to purify? In deciding on your strategy, two things are certain.

Guest Post: New Asian Union Means The Fall Of The Dollar Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/30/2011 13:42 -0500

Don’t let the title succeed in making you roll your eyes. Visit the site and read it. Tell me where you think the Asian markets, and financial systems, are headed. Here are some excerpts if you don’t have time to go thee right away.

“Since at least 2005, China has been taking the exact steps required to counter

Planning for Pets and their Preps

Do Your Plans Include Your Pets?

“Sure do! I have them numbered in order of consumption!” This might be the response of some, but not here in my house. Our pets are a much larger blessing than a problem. They are fed and cared for. In return, we have their affection and comedic relief. (Update…already!! Our boy cat limped up to me for attention, so I left the keyboard for the night….) Yes, the boy cat, just about 1 1/2

Lost Deals

I lost a Magic Mill. Yup. Not just the “run-o-the-mill” Magic Mill, but one of the first generation wooden case mills. This one had a 1hp motor, not the standard 3/4 horse. I didn’t know what I was looking at when I saw it in the Hope Chest. $45. A DEAL. Electric OR hand crank, with stones, instead of steel plates. If I had an internet connection with me, I would have found out just what it was in about

Prep Test - Generator

Pulled out the Champion 4500W genny today, and did a test run. Started on the 2nd pull, once the choke was set right. I let her run for 15 minutes, and flipped the kill switch. I ran it outside of the garage, with the exhaust aimed at the drive.

>>> Never run a generator in an enclosed space. <<<

I don’t drain the lines or the tank when I store it. It gets a test every 2 months, sometimes more

Go Take a Walk - Neighborhood RECON

Take a walk. Seriously. Go out and take a walk. Get out of your house, go into your neighborhood and walk. Aside from the exercise, it’ll give you a chance to do two other things.

The first is to study your neighbors’ places, (and your neighbors), while on a leisurely stroll. Look at their places. Check out their cars. Try to notice things that you gloss over these days due to familiarity. Look for unkempt lawns, trash in the side

Mapping Page Update

The mapping page just had an update, which consists of several new mapping and map-based research links being added. There are new crime statistics available, and most importantly, new links to felon and sex offender map search sites.

These updates are of great usefulness if you are doing a security review for current locations, and near term relocations.

An Article Worth Reading

“The Survival Mom” has a guest article by “Outback Medicine”, in guest post format called, “Ask the Outback Doc”. (Wow, three links in one sentence.) It is an article I recommend reading, as I’m sure there are a few items and concepts that just about every reader will find useful.

Mr. Outback has a blog-roll with a couple entries leveled at us here in the U.S.. (Upon further reading, it looks as if they are based HERE?)
